- The most obvious characteristic of the Akita is its noble
appearance. This dog naturally inspires respect by its calm and
dignified attitude. Its dignity and pride are as reassuring
as they are facinating. Although very affectionate towards
people it knows well, it is very reserved with those whom it doesn't
know, showing more indifference than aggression. Its affection
is reserved for its family.
- The Akita has character, but is calm. It's not an exuberant
animal, and we find this to be a quality.
- A safe guard dog, not prone to barking but sure of itself
He can be left alone in the house for a while without disturbing
the whole neighbourhood or vandalising the furniture. The Akita
is not highly strung, in fact it's rather quiet and doesn't bark
without reason. The owner needs to listen to the way it barks.
- As you can see, the Akita is quite unlike other dogs
It intrigues and fascinates with its attitude, which seems to
be thoughtful (and may in fact be so).
- Both Akita and owner have much to learn.
- The Akita does not please everyone, and this is one of its great
attractions.

- The Akita Inu is a dog with a somewhat independent temperament.
It needs to be trained when still very young, starting by establishing
a clear hierarchy. It has to learn straight away who is the boss.
- As a puppy it's really gorgeous, a teddy bear with soft, short
fur and big feet. But take a closer look and you will notice the
firm, proud, intense and confident gaze, sometimes a little enigmatic
and aloof this is no soft toy.

- This is an intelligent, thinking dog that doesn't act without
a reason. You must therefore respect its personality while laying
down a certain discipline. This means that his obstinacy must
be matched by your patience.
- He has no special requirements as far as exercise is concerned.
He just needs a psychologist for a master, in whom he can have
total confidence. You really won't be disappointed, and neither
will your Akita.
- The Akita is one of the cleanest breed of dogs and you won't
find it difficult to train him to do the necessary in the right
place.
- As far as sport is concerned, the Akita is to be found wherever
courage, stamina and a balanced character are needed. It is not,
however, a great jumper or a "speed freak"
